Give me ALL the stripes, bows and ruffles! In any season, I love detail on clothing. That’s why I was happy when I discovered the line Maggie Marilyn. As soon as I saw this top I knew I wanted to style it. The tie is actually a belt , but any excuse to add a bow on an already extravagant top is ok in my book! The wool vest is from my collection and I wear it ALL the time. (only a couple left) I wanted a piece to break up the pattern, plus layers are a must for the crazy weather we have in Dallas.

The idea of “too much” when it comes to clothing is something I’m always hearing. To me, balance is really important when styling. For example, making sure if you have a lot of fullness in one area, you balance it out by styling it with a slimmer piece. This top has a lot of volume with its ruffles and big sleeves. Therefore, I paired it with slim jeans and a structured vest. This however, is just one of many simple styling rules… which can and should be broken! After all fashion is all about experimenting and taking risks!

Being in the clothing industry for over 10 years, I have seen first hand how clothing can be SO personal and subjective. I could sell a style to one store that LOVES it and another one that passes on it as soon as its pulled off the rack. I always say to my styling clients that as long as you are comfortable in your clothing and it gives you a sense of confidence then just have fun with it! Obviously if the outfit is offensive in some way thats a different story. Personally there are days where I want to wear ALL the ruffles and bows.. and days that I’m most comfortable in a t-shirt and jeans. But at the end of the day, it is fashion and it should do nothing more than bring you joy make you feel like your best self!

As always thank you for reading!!
