Kitchen Lighting // Brookside Colonial

It’s amazing what really gorgeous lighting can do for a space. When we began renovating the kitchen I knew that I needed to set aside a good budget for lighting. I personally feel like lighting is one of the first things people notice when they walk into a space. It presents a mood for the space that is difficult to ignore….even if it’s subconscious.

I wanted to mix the styles of lighting but keep them all in brass tone for consistency. I decided to do these in the hallway leading up to the kitchen. I love the antique finish and weight… I thought walking under them in the hallway would create a sense of drama before even seeing the kitchen… sort of a teaser. For the island pendants I wanted something that you could see-through that wasn’t going to be too heavy and distract from the view outside. This coral light I have had for a while and have been saving for the breakfast nook adjacent to the kitchen. It will be the first light you see when walking into the space and take in the view so I wanted something unique yet organic.

I decided on cabinet lights to flank either side of the range hood above the open shelves because since my goal for the space was for it to feel like another room of the house instead of just a kitchen (hence all the paneled appliances). Cabinet lights aren’t typically used in kitchens so I thought it would be a nice twist!

For the back hallway I wanted something smaller that would be more of a discreet flush mount. I found these star lights below on Amazon for $100! They are so pretty and a great size/quality for the price.
