Blue Velvet | Chair Redo

I've always been a fan of blue velvet. Honestly when I started furnishing my house I wanted a dark blue velvet couch but thinking about future children jumping/spilling food on it made me cringe. So instead I opted for velvet chairs. I bought these from one of my favorite furniture/accessory stores in Dallas - Scout Design Studio. They also have their own line of gorgeous furniture which is to die for. They sell vintage items that they will redo for you, so imagination is key. When I bought these chairs they looked like this.

When shopping for vintage pieces the thing you must look for great lines... Make sure you like the shape, scale and silhouette of the item. Looking past the fabric/finish is most important when imagining what it will look like because those are the things that are most easily changed.

I decided to tackle the reupholstering myself which I do not recommend unless you have mad sewing skills and an unhealthy curiosity for how everything is made... like me.

             As I took it apart what I found fascinating are the ingenious ways that these metal plate nail heads work to give you a clean finish on the arms. Plus labeling each piece and its direction is helpful when putting it back together.

Reupholstering can be a pretty complex process depending on the piece (which is why this isn't a Diy post :) because after the de-construction comes the task of putting it back together. But I'm a sucker for a good before and after!
