First Birthday || Gift of Growing
Since my daughter just turned one this was my first time throwing a child's birthday party....So when it came time to do the thank you gifts I knew that instead of some toy that would likely break before they made it to the car I wanted to do something that involved a little learning and discovery. Plus nearly all the children that came to the party were older than mine. Since the theme of the party involved lots of florals I decided to make little seed pots the kids could plant and grow.
All you need is the following:
Pots (preferable something that will drain when watered) I found these on Amazon
Bags for the dirt. (treat bags work pretty well) Just bought mine from Hobby Lobby
Labels for the plant - I decided to just handwrite on a popsicle stick.
Twine or ribbon to tie them closed
Mini envelopes for seeds
Few seed packets (I bought three that I dispersed among the smaller envelopes) Rosemary, Cilantro, and Basil - or you can choose to do flowers.
Seed starting soil
I started by filling the bags with the soil. Then I folded it and taped it closed and placed it in each pot upside down so it would have a clean look on top. Afterwards I filled each envelope with about 8-10 seeds labeled it "seeds" so people wouldn't open it quickly and have the tiny seeds spill out.
Then I tested different handwritten fonts on the popsicle sticks till I settled on one I like. After labeling the correct # of sticks I placed everything in the pot and tied it with twine.
First Birthday | Gift of Growing
And thats it! A simple project that will hopefully last for more than a day. With patience and discipline the children will learn how to nurture something and watch it grow! Plus the adults loved the gifts too :-) You can see more photos of the party here.
Hope you enjoyed this fun project and try it for a birthday or event! Xx
