Dressed up Dresser || Ikea Hack
I love Ikea hacks... in some ways its like starting with a blank canvas. Since Ikea furniture is everywhere I feel like adding some character and making it special is important. When picking out furniture for my baby girl's room I wanted the changing table to double as storage... so a dresser seemed like the best option. I decided dress up the Ikea wood Hemnes drawer chest with overlays and new knobs. The Hemnes Dresser "before"
This was the first time I have used overlays and I was skeptical but they were pretty easy to work with if you make sure to measure well and mark before you glue. The measurement lines below are for the inside edge of the overlay.
After gluing them with liquid nails I taped them down so they wouldn't move till dry. Q-tips work pretty well for taking off the excess glue from edges of the overlay. The overlays are usually painted to match the color of your dresser but I bought the white stain Hemnes dresser and the overlays matched perfectly right out of the bag so I decided not to paint them.
The holes for the knobs were already there so instead of using the black knobs that come with the dresser I wanted something prettier so I bought these brass ones…And voila! SO. Much Better.
Thank you for visiting! Xx
